OctaFX is accessible to Uganda-based traders, but it operates here under its offshore entity, Octa Markets Ltd (Mwali International Services Authority, Comoros), and does not hold a licence from the Capital Markets Authority Uganda (CMA). The CMA has a licensing framework for online forex brokers under the 2016 Amendment Act, but as of this review, its public register contains no licensed retail forex or CFD firms. Residents almost exclusively use offshore brokers regulated elsewhere.
The licensing test
The specific entity serving Ugandan clients is Octa Markets Ltd, which holds a license from the Mwali International Services Authority in the Comoros. That is real regulation, but it is not the same class as an FCA or CySEC licence.
The CMA in Uganda has not licensed any online forex or CFD brokers. The legal framework exists, but no broker has yet gone through the process. OctaFX, like nearly every international broker accepting Ugandan clients, falls outside active local supervision.
What the broker offers
OctaFX offers three account types, zero commission, and leverage that goes far beyond what European or Australian regulators allow.
| Account | Platform | Min Deposit | Spread (from) | Commission |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Micro | MT4 | USD 25 | 0.6 pips | 0 |
| Pro | MT5 | USD 25 | 0.6 pips | 0 |
| OctaTrader | OctaTrader | USD 25 | 0.6 pips | 0 |
Spreads from 0.6 pips on major pairs are competitive. Most brokers offering commission-free accounts quote 1.0-1.2 pips as their base spread. The industry standard for a raw spread account with a commission tends to be around 0.1-0.2 pips plus USD 3-7 per lot. OctaFX uses a spread-only model instead, which is simpler to understand and can work out cheaper at smaller trade sizes.
The minimum deposit of USD 25 is the same across all accounts. That is low by industry standards, where USD 50-100 is common.

Trading conditions in practice
The offshore entity offers leverage up to 1:1000. There is no local cap in Uganda, so what you get is whatever the broker chooses to provide.
On a micro account, 1:1000 leverage lets you control a position of USD 10,000 with USD 10 in margin. A 0.1% adverse price move wipes out 100% of your margin in that scenario. No local regulator has set a lower cap for Uganda-based traders, and the broker is not obliged to apply European-style limits.
Swap-free comes as standard. Most major offshore brokers offer Islamic accounts as an optional feature; OctaFX makes it the default, with no added cost.
Deposits and withdrawals
OctaFX's materials commonly cite mobile money and local bank transfers as options, but exact limits, processing times and fees were not published clearly for the Uganda region at the time of review.
| Payment Method | Availability | Processing Time | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mobile Money (MTN/Airtel) | Commonly cited, not verified | Usually minutes | Confirm current limits with support |
| Bank Transfer | Commonly cited, not verified | 1-5 business days | Bank fees may apply |
| Cards (Visa/MC) | Standard | 1-3 business days | Issuer fees may apply |
Accounts settle in USD or EUR. There is no UGX-denominated account confirmed. Every deposit and withdrawal carries a UGX-USD conversion cost. If you deposit UGX 500,000 and the conversion eats 2%, that is your first cost before you open a position.

The trade-offs
The 50% deposit bonus is part of the marketing offer and comes with conditions. The reputation file on this broker is more complicated than the marketing suggests.
The India Enforcement Directorate opened a probe related to allegations under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, with reports of withdrawal failures for some users. This is not a Uganda-specific alert, and there is no verified warning from the CMA about OctaFX. But it is a signal to pay attention to the withdrawal process.
For Ugandan traders, the local regulatory net is very wide open. The CMA runs an ongoing fraud warning and encourages people to report unlicensed schemes, but there is no local compensation fund and no local office to escalate to when a complaint arises. The Bank of Uganda does not licence retail forex brokers. Protection rests on the broker's own conduct and regulation, and on testing the withdrawal system before committing more money.
Who should choose OctaFX?
OctaFX suits a trader who wants low spreads, accepts offshore regulation, uses MT4 or MT5, and prefers swap-free conditions without requesting them as a special option.
It is a workable choice when testing strategies with small capital at USD 25 minimum deposits, and when you value the 0.6 pip base spread. The spread-only model has no hidden commission, which makes cost calculations easier than raw-spread-plus-commission accounts.
Reconsider when your priority is maximum regulatory safety. Brokers holding stricter licences from CySEC, FSCA, or the FCA impose leverage caps near 1:30, which limits downside risk, and they maintain local processes for handling complaints. For larger accounts, that difference is worth the price of tighter spreads.
Where the risk sits
Trading profit is taxed in Uganda. The URA treats it as business income, not capital gains, and it is taxable at progressive rates: 0% up to UGX 2,820,000, then 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40% on the portion above UGX 120,000,000. Uganda taxes residents on worldwide income, so profits from an offshore broker are reportable.
KYC requires a Ugandan National ID (NIN card) or passport, and proof of address such as a utility bill or bank statement. The verification process is standard.
The CMA warning focuses on Ponzi schemes, fake account managers, and Telegram "copy-trading" groups. The problem is operators soliciting deposits without any licence at all.
Before you fund an account
The formal licence from Mwali is a low bar, but it is not zero. OctaFX has been operating since 2011. The rebrand from OctaFX to Octa and active marketing across Africa through octaafrica.net indicate the company is investing in the region. The reported withdrawal failures in India were not tied to Uganda, but they are worth noting as history.
The proprietary OctaTrader platform is available alongside MT4 and MT5.
